Thatcham Park School, 2008/09

At Thatcham Park primary school we worked with Year 6 pupils on a digital technology project, introducing staff and pupils to software and techniques for producing digital photography, podcasting and video.

Each activity was developed as a mini-project that developed into the next activity, using themes and words to shape the production.

In photography, pupils worked with the word Ephemera as their theme, creating portraits of themselves, their school and their families through the collections of ephemera that define them.

The photographs taken in schools were then used as the inspiration for a collection of stories that were written for a podcast (audio production). The theme for this was the word Anecdote.

Finally, with the theme Montage the pupils brought their compositional skills from photography and story-telling skills from the podcast to make three short documentary videos about the school.

Alongside this production the children made a photo-documentary comic-book recording their experiences of the project.
