PETROL & ALCOHOL

From November 2008 through to February 2009 F+S delivered a Mediabox-funded video & VJ project at Centre North West in Oswestry.

The style of the final film is a stylish, fast-cut mix of sampled video and motion graphics, with a contemporary soundtrack and audio sampling to match the subject matter. A blend of music video and VJ-style video mixing, with a dark, serious edge.

A core team of 10 young people worked on the project, with support from local emergancy services, drug and alcohol teams, youth services and other artists.

Developing a project plan through meetings with key agencies, and building this into a detailed exploration of drink-driving culture, the group had full control of every aspect of production.

The group worked full time on the production, taking in a number of location shoots including a full accident fire and rescue reconstruction.

A book of the project was made by the participants to document every aspect of the project. In the form of a perfect-bound softback graphic novel, its 80 pages cover all the activities, the feelings, ideas, and key events of the production.

THE PRODUCTION

The final product is a collection of 7 short films documenting different stages of the journey a drink-driver or passenger may go on, from intending not to drink on a night out, to being arrested or worse, in an accident.

All the music was created by the group and the final versions of the films were made by VJing live to the music in front of an audience.

The group intend to remain together to tour the project as an educational event at schools, colleges and other locations where young drivers and potential drivers gather.

The films will be available to view on the website soon.
